Introducing Me

Welcome! My name is Lily, and I am a rising junior at the University of Georgia. I am studying Psychology and Human Services in order to become a private practice therapist in the future. I am very involved on UGA’s campus in Greek Life and UGA Miracle. I love Athens for many reasons, but the biggest of all is the music scene we are able to be a part of there! I was raised on 80s rock and roll, which is why I think my music taste is so all over the place. This genre of music has so much influence on music made today. Country, R&B, rap, alternative, EDM, and pop are all genres that are on my daily playlists.

Some people listen to music because it is catchy, which is true for me sometimes, too. However, the lyrics are the main reasons I listen to most songs. Songs that tell a story, sad or happy, are the ones that I enjoy listening to the most. Demi Lovato’s most recent song she released was titled “Sober” and was an apology for her relapse last summer. It is a heartbreaking and beautiful song that makes me tear up every time I hear it. Khalid also has an incredible talent for writing songs that my generation can relate to such as “American Teen.”

Alternative music is a new love for me, but it is a strong one! There is A LOT of rock influence in this genre with bands like Widespread Panic and Moon Taxi, which are my favorite right now. I love exploring new music like this, and I hope that this course can open my music knowledge even wider!
